Important: Before enabling the Autostart feature, ensure the Workflow is inactive and there is no incoming live video

You can turn on Autostart in two ways: directly from the Stream Group header, or from the Stream Group Editor.

Method 1: Turn on Autostart from the Stream Group 

1. Locate the Autostart toggle

   At the top of the Stream Group, find the Autostart toggle.

   

2. Click the Autostart toggle

   1. Click the toggle to turn Autostart on.

   2. The toggle turns green when Autostart is on, so you can tell at a glance whether it's on or off for a Stream Group.

      

3. Start streaming from your Encoder.

   Start streaming from your live streaming Encoder to your Switchboard Workflow.

Every Destination in the Stream Group with Autostart turned on will go live automatically.

Method 2: Turn on Autostart from the Stream Group Editor

1. Open the Stream Group Editor.
   Click the pencil icon on the Stream Group.

2. Click the Autostart toggle.
   Click the toggle to turn on Autostart.

   

3. Save your changes
   Click Save and Next, then click Done. A confirmation displays at the bottom of the screen to let you know your changes were applied to the Stream Group.

   

4. Start streaming from your Encode.r
   Start streaming from your live streaming Encoder to your Switchboard Workflow. Success!

Good to know

A Workflow can contain multiple Stream Groups. When you send in your live stream, Autostart will automatically push it live to every Destination with Autostart turned on, across all Stream Groups in that Workflow, not just one.

Questions about the Autostart Feature

Question: What if I've already started sending video into my Switchboard account but forgot to add a Destination to the Destination group that has Autostart enabled?

Log in to your Switchboard account and use one of the methods below:

Method 1
Press Start next to the Destination if it already exists in the current Workflow.

Method 2
Add the Destination to the Destination group with Autostart enabled, then press Start.

Once the Destination is added to the Destination group with Autostart enabled, it's ready to start automatically the next time you send a live video from your Encoder.

Question: What if I forget to turn on the Autostart feature before sending video to Switchboard?

No worries, log in to your Switchboard account and press Start for the appropriate destinations.

At the end of your live broadcast, make sure your Encoder has stopped sending video to your Switchboard account.

Question: If my Encoder disconnects and reconnects mid-broadcast, will Autostart trigger again?

Yes. Autostart is sensitive to your incoming video signal, so if your Encoder disconnects and then reconnects mid-broadcast, Autostart will trigger again and create a new broadcast. Keep this in mind if you experience connection drops during a live stream.

Question: Does Autostart apply to Scheduled Events?

No. Autostart does not work on Scheduled Events; it only applies to regular Stream Groups.

Question: How do I turn off Autostart?

Click the same Autostart toggle again, either on the Stream Group card or in the Stream Group Editor. The toggle turns from green back to its default color to confirm Autostart is off.
